I haven’t been around here as much lately - mostly just trolling posting comments. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy, though. Thanks to the opportunity Oppo gave me to get started writing about cars, I’ve joined the crew over at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , so I’ve been posting material appropriate to the site over there. I also have some ideas that are completely inappropriate for RFD, so I’ll share them here once I get around to writing them.
I’ve also been getting out to the track a bit. I attended the second !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! event at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! last week, which I wrote about !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and got a ride in the pace car, which I wrote about !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Also, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! has invited me to join them this weekend at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , a new track in central MA that just opened this year. I’m really looking forward to it - it’s a technical track that should appeal to my inner autocrosser. If I have any tires or brakes left after this weekend, I’ll try to sign up for the new July 22 Track Night date at Thompson, but I don’t want to commit to that until after I see what effect a ton of track time at Palmer has on my car.
I’ll be taking a break in August for the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but after that I’ll be back to spew my thoughts across the internet some more.

What brakes are you running in the BRZ?

Winmax W5 pads on all four corners, and ATE Type 200 brake fluid. So far, at Thompson, they’ve held up perfectly. Tons of braking power and no fade at all. Palmer has a lot of turns and elevation changes, so I’ll be bringing my pressure bleeder just in case, as well as my stock pads for the drive home in case I need them.

I’ve been running the Ferodo 2500s for a year or so. They’re not as hardcore as those ones, but I’ve also been streeting them for 14000 miles without overheating, running out of pad, or eating into the rotors. At this point I’m just kind of curious about how long they’ll last since the BRZ is really just for street duty these days.

How’s the dust and noise on those pads? As great as the Winmax pads work on the track, they turn my pretty gold wheels black from all the dust, and they squeak like a city bus. I’ve left them on the car since late June because of multiple track events, but I switch back to stock pads if I’m not going to the track for a while. They’re perfectly adequate for street driving.

The dust is worse than I was expecting, but the noise isn’t bad. They squeal a little, but it’s not waking up the neighbors or feeling embarrassed at a stop light bad. They’re waaaaay quieter and make less dust than the Porterfield R4s I ran briefly on my MR2. Probably a little less noisy than the aramid Centric ones I’m running these days in my AW11.
